Critical Reflection
Effective teachers use assessment as it is vital to informing planning and instruction, to meet student needs. A variety of assessment strategies, including formative and summative assessment, should be integrated into learning to enhance student achievement, which is supported in artefact 1 (Peterson and Siadet, 2009). An interactive learning environment can be encouraged through the use of feedback to enhance student learning and develop a more coherent understanding. Furthermore, students should be encouraged to provide peer feedback (Smith and Higgins, 2006). This is evident in artefact 2 and 3, which demonstrates the use of assessments to provide feedback.
Evaluation of student learning is based on making consistent and comparable judgements through assessment and data collection. Assessment for learning aims to enhance student achievement and to ensure teaching and learning goals are met (Kirkup, 2006). This is evident in artefacts 1,3, and 4, which exhibits the use of assessment to inform teaching and evaluate where students are at and ways they can improve their learning. Furthermore, by interpreting student data, the teacher can use this to modify teaching practice to assist student learning (Kirkup, 2006). Assessment can be utilised to evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom. Teachers can use these evaluations to reflect on their teaching approaches and to modify lessons (Hao and Johnson, 2012). This is supported by my associate teacher in artefact 4, which articulates the importance of assessment.
According to Peterson and Siadat (2009), formative assessment should be used to provide timely feedback to students, parents, and the teacher. Assessment strategies and feedback is used as reliable records of student achievement, as evident in artefact 3.

Unit Title: EDMA310: Mathematics: Learning and Teaching 2
For this assignment, I was required to investigate and evaluate two different types of assessment strategies and their effectiveness. Through this, I developed an understanding of various assessment strategies and their use and effectiveness in the classroom. One of the assessment strategies, was based on the data collected from a Maths interview, which required me to evaluate the student's understanding.

Unit Title: EDLA309: Literacy Education 2
This assignment aimed to develop a unit planner, with explicit learning intentions, which was assessed using a variety of assessment tools, both informal and formal, such as KWL charts and anecdotal records. One of the resources, as listed below, demonstrates the assessment criteria for the end product to evaluate student learning and achievement. These assessments are then used to provide timely feedback for students to develop new knowledge and understandings.

Unit Title: EDFX212: Professional Experience Primary 2A
During my second year placement, I used this reading record to assess student's ability to read and their development in reading comprehension. Through this assessment, we can identify and evaluate student's strengths and areas of improvement, and therefore modify our teaching strategies to cater for the individual's learning. This assessment strategy can also be used to provide feedback to students and parents, as it is a reliable source of student achievement.
